Summer School "Europe in a Nutshell" - South-African Edition 2026

This International Immersion Program​ is targeted at undergraduate or graduate students from South-Africa.

This "Europe in a Nutshell" Summer School is a joint cooperation between ​Varekai NPO and Unisa.

The objective is to provide an amazing opportunity for enriched learning, cultural and industry exposure​ in a multi-cultural environment.

To add to the learning and cultural exposure, the program takes place in the city of Brussels, Belgium, the Greenest Capital in Europe. 
Brussels is a beautiful city, well-known as capital of Europe, but also because of its stunning architecture and cosmopolitan ambiance. A few hours by train, one can reach Paris, London, Amsterdam, etc. Brussels is not only known for its beauty, but the city also hosts the European Community and the Headquarters of many big companies.

The "Europe in a nutshell" Summer School is working together with the University of Leuven (World University Ranking : 61). Most of our Summer School teachers are KU Leuven professors.

Coursework​

Experience interactive and active learning classes and earn a certificate

Engage in team-building activities and global mindset workshops.

COMPANY VISITS:
Exposure to the business life in Europe with industry sessions and company visits.

SIGHTSEEING:
Engross in the history and culture of Europe 

Key Takeaways and Agenda

Students prepare and give a presentation as part of a team as a tangible outcome. In addition, students participate to lessons given by experienced Professors and engage in team-building activities and sightseeing with peers  to take away an experience of a lifelong global network.

Accommodation

You will be staying at the 3 star Hotel Chambord in the center of Brussels for 14 Nights. Each room has two single beds. Participants to the Program will share rooms with a co-participant of equal gender.
Except for the opening and closing ceremonies, the indoor classes will take place in one of the Meeting Rooms of the hotel.

How secure is the venue ?

 

All students will be well looked after, and security is carefully monitored. Our hostel/hotel is only accessible to our students with one entry point that is staffed 24/7. In order to leave students are required to sign out and sign themselves back in, and curfews are enforced. Any issues that arise can be taken up with staff. Students will also always be accompanied during lessons, trips, and excursions.
